What Digest is

Digest (“we,” “us”) is a personal reading feed that lets you save bookmarks, share recommendations, and see what friends are reading. You can access Digest through the web app at mydgst.com and through our Chrome browser extension.

Data we collect

Account information

When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google OAuth. We do not receive or store your Google password.

Bookmarks

When you save a page — through the web app or the Chrome extension — we store the page URL along with metadata we fetch from it (title, description, preview image, and publication name). If you choose to mark a bookmark as shared, it becomes visible to people who follow you.

Browser extension

The Digest Chrome extension reads the URL of the active tab only when you explicitly click the extension button or use the keyboard shortcut. It does not run in the background, track browsing history, or collect data from pages you do not save. The extension communicates exclusively with our server at mydgst.com.

Usage data

We use basic server logs (request timestamps, status codes) for debugging and reliability. We do not use third-party analytics or tracking scripts.

How we use your data

• Display your reading feed and profile
• Show shared bookmarks to your followers
• Fetch page metadata for link previews
• Send notifications about friend requests (if enabled)

Data storage & security

Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on Railway. Communication between the browser extension, web app, and server uses HTTPS. Authentication tokens are stored in secure, HTTP-only cookies.

Third-party sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties. Shared bookmarks are only visible to users who follow you on Digest.

Your controls

• Delete individual bookmarks at any time
• Toggle bookmarks between private and shared
• Remove followers or unfollow others
• Request full account deletion by emailing us (see below) — we will delete all associated data within 30 days

Data retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove all personal data within 30 days. Anonymized, aggregated data may be retained for service improvements.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we will update this page and revise the effective date above.
